After the Frenchman had departed the club for Barcelona in 2007 for around £20 million, Arsene Wenger made Emmanuel Adebayor the main striker at Arsenal, and rightly so. The Togo international flourished at Arsenal when leading the Gunners’ attack.

Starting what would be his third season for Arsenal, Adebayor missed just two Premier League fixtures – whilst he found the net on 24 occasions, which included a spell of nine goals in just seven games.

An eye for goal, the following season the Togolese forward averaged just less than a goal every other game. A ratio that any modern day forward can be proud of, his goalscoring habits after the departure of Henry ultimately resulted in Adebayor’s departure to Manchester City in 2009.
