5 Manchester United players and their celebrity lookalikes

Famous football stars all across Europe have repeatedly been the subject of comparison with celebrities from different walks of life. Some comparisons have been worth a try while the others have deliberately or unintentionally tried to make a mockery of the players concerned, mostly carried out by rival fans on purely entertainment purposes! Some people believe that every person born on this earth has atleast one lookalike in some or the other corner of our world. We bring out some such personalities donning the Manchester United shirt.

Disclaimer: The following comparisons are as seen through the eyes of the author himself, even though the two subjects might not resemble each other perfectly, but they do have the potential to do so! Well, its hard to get closer than this to some of the United first team players!

Dimitar Berbatov and Andy Garcia

The out of favour Berbatov possesses some striking similarities to Hollywood actor Andy Garcia minus the charm and, currently, the hairdo. Berba has managed to mirror Andy’s pose to a large extent and given his status in the United squad currently, the Bulgarian might be looking towards a future in the film studios of Los Angeles! Andy Garcia is not getting any younger and Berba could turn out to be the perfect bet in case someone decides to make Godfather IV and Ocean’s Fourteen!

Ashley Young and Jamie Hector

Little known Jamie Hector, an actor on HBO series The Wire, and England international Ashley Young would have been the perfect twins had Jamie been just a tone or two fairer. The newly recruited winger has made a brilliant start to the campaign with some stunning goals and crosses, helping his new employers maintain their unbeaten start to the season. If someday, Hector decides to pay a visit to Manchester, we would request Sir Alex to play him alongside Young. Wonder how many clubs have 2 pairs of twins at their disposal (read Rafael and Fabio)!

Michael Owen and Jason Manford

English comedian Jason Manford is a chubbier and a healthier version of veteran United striker Michael Owen. Given the playing time that Owen sees at Old Trafford, he is bound to put on weight and we might very soon see him stepping into Jason’ shoes and doing stand-up comedy on television. Interestingly, Manford is a City fan while Owen spent his entire childhood at Anfield. Owen has a humourous streak himself, having changed 4 clubs in five years and has failed to settle down in the last 3!

David de Gea and Juan Martin del Potro

Put David de Gea with the facial hair and del Potro without it together and you get a pair of resembling sportspersons, both young and at the threshold of becoming world superstars. Our only lookalike from the sporting fraternity, the US Open champion is a more muscular and stronger version of the frail, lean United goalkeeper. But the Spaniard has time in his hands and could make for an interesting body double of del Potro in a few years.

Nemanja Vidic and Kuno Becker

Finally it’s the turn of our captain Nemanja Vidic to go under the scanner. The Serbian closely resembles the character of Santiago Munez in the movie series Goal, played by Kuno Becker. Munez is a skillful playmaker and striker while Vidic is a rock-solid defender for United. Munez also plied his trade in the Premier League with Newcastle and then moved to Real Madrid. Interestingly, Vidic too received unconfirmed offers for a move to Madrid this summer! Don’t go the van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo or Munez way, you are a true red Nemanja, stay red!
