Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has admitted that Manchester United came in for manager Carlo Ancelotti last summer, before they eventually hired David Moyes.
Sir Alex Ferguson retired last season and the Scotsman chose compatriot David Moyes as the one to replace him at the helm. However, according to Perez, Ferguson only chose Moyes because Ancelotti told him that he would be replacing Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
Perez said: ‘Ferguson called him (Ancelotti) to be his successor but he told him he had already promised to come here with us.’
David Moyes was eventually sacked by the Manchester United board after a disastrous season saw the Red Devils finish seventh in the Barclays Premier League table, missing out on the Champions League and Europa League.
Ancelotti went on to succeed however, winning the Champions League on Saturday by defeating rivals Atletico Madrid at the showpiece in Lisbon. The Los Blancos ran out 4-1 winners, a scoreline which perhaps flattered Ancelotti and his troops, considering the game was in Atletico’s favour just two minutes before the final whistle.
David Moyes, who was recently involved in an altercation at a wine bar, is currently out of a job and despite links with several clubs, the former Everton manager seems to be taking a break from the game.
