Fluminense and Alianza Lima bring their Copa Libertadores campaign to an end on Wednesday (May 29) when they lock horns at the Maracana. While the Brazilian outfit have enjoyed an unbeaten campaign, Alejandro Restrepo’s men will look to pick up their first win in Group A and secure Copa Sudamericana qualification.
Fluiminense booked their spot in the fourth round of the Copa do Brasil last Wednesday by beating Sampaio Correa 2-0 to secure a 4-0 aggregate victory over the Serie C side.
Fernando Diniz’s side booked their spot in the Copa Libertadores knockouts in their previous outing on May 16 with a 2-1 victory over 10-man Cerro Porteno.
Fluminense have enjoyed an unbeaten Copa Libertadores campaign, claiming three wins in their five matches. The Serie A side are atop their group, six points above second-placed Cerro Porteno.
Alianza, meanwhile, were sent crashing back down to earth in the Peruvian Liga 1, as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Cusco last Friday.
Before that, Restrepo’s men were on a five-game unbeaten run, winning three and drawing consecutively to Cerro Porteno and Colo-Colo in the Copa Libertadores.
Alianza are yet to taste victory in the Copa Libertadores, losing once in five games, but will leapfrog Colo-Colo to finish third with a win.
