Real Madrid 3-4 Barcelona: Records that were broken in Sunday's El Clasico

Last night's El Clasico had everything that you would expect from the biggest fixture in world football, and the match saw quite a few records broken.The match ended 3-4 in Barcelona's favour with a brilliant hat trick from Barcelona's Lionel Messi whose performance made big alterations in the record books last night. #1 Lionel Messi becomes the first Barcelona player to score two hat tricks in El Clasico.

Lionel Messi completed his hat trick last night, and that helped him break quite a few records. He became the first player in the Barcelona jersey to have scored two hat-tricks in El Clasico, something that no other Barcelona player had done in the club's long history.

#2 Lionel Messi becomes the top scorer in El Clasico history.

Taking over the record of the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano's record of 18 goals in 30 Clasicos, Lionel Messi now has 21 goals to his name from 27 El Clasicos. Messi had equalled Stefano's 18-goals tally last year.

#3 Lionel Messi becomes the second highest La Liga goalscorer

Lionel Messi also overtook Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez as the second highest goal scorer in La Liga history as he reached his milestone of 236 goals. He is just 16 goals away from breaking the long-standing goal-scoring record of Telmo Zarra who holds the record for having the highest goals in La Liga history. Last week, Messi blew past the marks set by Raúl (228) and Di Stéfano (227).

#4 Lionel Messi becomes the top foreign La Liga goalscorer.

With his second goal of the night Messi also became the top foreign La Liga goalscorer, breaking Hugo Sánchez record of 234 that stood since 1994. As we all know Messi went on to add another goal to bring his La Liga count to 236 goals.

#5 Cristiano Ronaldo becomes Real Madrid\'s 4th top scorer ever.

Cristiano Ronaldo overtook (243) overtakes Ferenc Puskás as Real Madrid's fourth highest top scorer ever, after he scored from the penalty spot last night. He now has 243 goals in the white shirt, a goal more than Puskás. He is just behind Raúl, Alfredo Di Stéfano and Santillana now.

#6 Sergio Ramos now has the highest number of red cards in La Liga history.

At the age of just 27, Sergio Ramos' 19th career red card last night earned him a new record that most of the players will be looking to avoid. He surpassed Xavier Aguado and Pablo Alfaro who equally had the same number of red card (18) prior to this match. Ramos also has 180 yellows to his name, something he wouldn't be proud of.
