2014 is coming to an end and Google has already come up with a list of the most searched items of the year. The FIFA World Cup held in Brazil in June-July held most of the attention of people searching online.

‘World Cup’ was the most searched term of the year after ‘Robin Williams’.

More Google Trends details from the FIFA World Cup revealed the following:

When Germany went to half time leading Brazil 5-0, Germany searches for “highest score in a World Cup victory” increased 370 times.

People in Germany searched about Klose breaking Ronaldo’s all-time World Cup scoring record 8 times more than Muller’s goal which was the nation’s 2000th.

Brazil searches for “Gaúcho da Copa” increased 6 times after the legendary fan gave his replica trophy to a young German girl after the 1-7 loss.

World Cup final goalscorer Mario Götze was searched 4 times more than supermodel Gisele Bündchen, unveiled the trophy at the final.

Brazil started looking forward to the next tournament with searches for Brazil vs Argentina 2018 being double than for the 2014 final.

During the final, Argentines Googled The Lord’s prayer 66 times more than the theme song for the tournament.

Germany’s search for the 4th star on their emblem increased by 8 times during the final match.

‘World Cup 2014 - Watching the game while the boss is away‘ was the most searched Google Doodle of the Year as fans worldwide braved early mornings, late-nights, school and work hours to catch a bit of action from the gala event.

The highly popular Winner stays ‘Nike Football: Winner Stays. ft. Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., Rooney, Ibrahimovi?, Iniesta’ video was the most searched Youtube video of the Year only behind a certain Mutant Giant Spider Dog.

Brazil’s 1-7 loss to eventual champions Germany in the semi-finals was the most searched World Cup match of the year followed by the Germany vs Argentina final and the Brazil vs Chile Round of 16 clash which the hosts won on penalties.

Colombia’s James Rodriguez was the most searched athlete in the world mostly because of his Golden Boot performance in the World Cup and move to Real Madrid from Monaco later in the year. In India, World Cup was the most Googled item after Elections 2014.
