Why David de Gea shouldn't leave Manchester United to join Real Madrid

The presence of Keylor Navas

Keylor Navas has hardly player at Real Madrid since joining in the summer

The Costa Rican was signed from Levante in the last transfer window at a time when a lot of hype was around him. He came after a sensational World Cup and an unreal season with Levante. Many thought that he would be the first choice for Carlo Ancelotti.

But they were all so wrong.

Compared to Casillas of last season, Keylor Navas was leaps and bounds ahead. In fact, not another goal-keeper did better than him in La Liga – that is including Thibaut Courtois – and only Manuel Neuer could claim to have been better than him. And perhaps Hugo Lloris.

Hence, it surprises one when they see the number of games he was allowed to play this season. The same could happen with either him or David de Gea next season if the young Spaniard is bought.

As it is, Real Madrid actually don’t need a goalkeeper with Navas on board. Ancelotti, or whoever the next coach is, might prefer Keylor Navas over De Gea and that would mean a year of stagnation for the United goalkeeper – something he can’t afford in his best years.

Keylor Navas has already been the victim of this and it would be wise of De Gea to make sure that he learns from the Costa Rican’s mistake.

The rising tide of United

David de Gea has been crucial to Manchester United’s steady comeback this season

Since David de Gea has joined United, they have gone through an erratic period to say the least. After losing the title in his first season to City in the last minute, Sir Alex Ferguson somehow managed to steer the team to a Premier League title in the 2012-13 season and then retired, leaving the team in an absolute mess.

Then came the short David Moyes era – one which United fans would love to shift-delete out of their memory. In what was one of the darkest times for Manchester United, David de Gea shone like a star on a new moon night.

Many a time did he save the club their blushes during that phase. It was, at that point, his best season with the club – and it was during the time when the tide was at its lowest.

After David Moyes came Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman’s career with the club started horrendously, but De Gea stood like a rock in front of the goal still. Finally, the former Bayern manager could steady the ship and United rose steadily and now sit at 4th with just 2 games to go and 6 points above 5th placed Liverpool.

The world around was in chaos, but David de Gea has stood there – unmoved – like the Himalayan mountains and helped the tide to rise. Hence, he leaving now would make little sense since the future looks like bright for the Red Devils and his trophy case with the club hasn’t done justice to the performances he put in for them week-in and week-out – and there’s a chance that it could improve if he stayed.
