Paris, Nov 7 (IANS) Veteran defender Patrice Evra was on Monday called up by France's football squad to replace injured Layvin Kurzawa.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Kurzawa underwent a medical examination on Monday at France camp outside Paris, while the medical staff recommended the exclusion of the 24-year-old from his national team, reports Efe.

Juventus player Evra, 35, was called up for the first time, since the French team coached by former captain Didier Deschamps suffered a defeat against Portugal in the Euro championship final on July 10.

France will face Sweden on Friday in Paris in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers at the Stade de France and then play a friendly against Ivory Coast four days later in the French town of Lens.
