Franck Ribery To Miss Audi Cup

Bayern Munich Winger Franck Ribery will miss the Audi Cup after sustaining an ankle injury in the team’s training session earlier today. Ribery, 28, had to be taken off the field in a golf cart with his left ankle heavily bandaged and the player still visibly in pain.

Agony for Ribery

Speaking about the injury, Ribery said:

“At the moment it happened, I was really scared. I thought the ligaments were torn. I pulled out of a challenge and I heard my foot crack. At first I was really scared. I thought I had torn my ligaments.”

However, medics later declared that the injury was not as severe as it looked in the beginning. Reporting about Ribery’s injury, an announcement on Bayern Munich’s official website read:

“Ribery will be sidelined for a week and misses Tuesday and Wednesday’s AUDI Cup, but he may yet be fit for the first competitive match of the new campaign, the DFB Cup trip to Eintracht Braunschweig on 1 August.”

Audi Cup, a pre-season tournament, will be held in Munich and will involve UEFA Champions League winners Barcelona, AC Milan and Brazil’s Porto Alegre.

Bayern plays its first Bundesliga match of the season on Aug. 7, when it hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach. The 28-year-old Ribery has played for Bayern since 2007.
