At the Zurich Kongresshaus besides all the individual awards for achievements in the year 2012, there was a life-time award handed out to 67-year-old German legend Franz Beckenbauer.
Beckenbauer received the FIFA Presidential Award from the world football governing body President Joseph S. Blatter in recognition of his extraordinary achievements and record of service to the world’s favourite game.
Beckenbauer excelled as a supremely elegant, world-class player, as a charismatic coach and manager on the touchline for club and country, as club president besides being the figurehead and chief organiser of a major sports event in his home nation. And each and every time, the focus was the FIFA World Cup™.
