#4 Steven N'Zonzi played well for the Lions

The experienced midfielder was Galatasaray's strength in the midfield, and he played his part by influencing the game both in attack and in defence.

Steven N'Zonzi was a clear threat with high balls as the 30-year-old won five aerial duels, the joint highest by any player on that field today. He made over 100 touches with the ball, gave 86 passes, and kept a passing accuracy of over 90%.

He won two tackles, made two interceptions, made three clearances, and blocked a shot to cap his performance. A loss for Galatasaray will certainly frustrate him, but it does nothing to take away from his fine output.

#3 Thibaut Courtois kept Real safe

The former Chelsea goalkeeper had quick reflexes and remained alert throughout the game to ensure that Real Madrid walked out of Instanbul without conceding a single goal.

Galatasaray may not have had the amount of chances Los blancos had, but the few they did have would have been a tad too much for many goalkeepers. Thibaut Courtois showed his class today by saving Madrid in three major instances inside his 18-yard-box.

The first chance came from a through-pass that stumped a sleeping Madrid defence as Florin Andone picked up the ball and took a right-footed volley. Courtois, however, came off his line, dove accordingly, and sent the ball around the post.

The Lions second chance came from an indirect free-kick as an unsuspecting Madrid side failed to judge the low flight of the ball right into the path of Andone, but his half-volley was pushed behind by Courtois once again.

Younes Belhanda's chance at goal was saved by Courtois' quick reflexes, but the 27-year-old goalkeeper was unable to hold unto the ball. Thankfully for Madrid, he was quick enough to pounce at the ball and keep a firm hold on it before Belhanda could get a rebound shot in.

Zidane will be happy with Courtois' showing.
