After being in the news for the whole season either for his superlative performance or for his injuries in the build-up for the match against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter final, Gareth Bale has found one more reason to hog the media limelight.
In a comment made to the Spanish newspaper AS on the eve of his team’s tie against Real Madrid, Bale did not rule out his prospect of moving to other European Nations if great opportunities come along.
“You never know,” Bale said, on the possibility of a move abroad, “but I’m not afraid to leave the country. If a great opportunity arises, you need to seriously consider it. I left home at 15.
“If I leave the Premier League, I’ll learn another language; I’ll know other people, another country. I will grow as a person. There aren’t more British players abroad because the league is very strong but now yours [La Liga] has got Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi…”
Bale has been hogging the limelight following his impressive performance for the Spurs this season. His stunning Champions League hat-trick against Internazionale at the San Siro in October propelled him amongst the most sought after players for the summer transfer.
Many big names are said to have shown interest in him including Real Madrid who they play tonight where he could further enhance his growing reputation. Another Spanish outfit Barcelona are also said to be after the Tottenham winger for the summer transfer while Inter have been linked with a £40 million bid.
The 21 year old former Southampton player announced his openness for other clubs at a time just after he had committed himself to Spurs for another four and half year during his contract extension recently.
Tottenham Manager Redknapp, however, has made it clear he would fight hard to keep his prized asset because cashing in would send the “wrong signals” and trigger the disintegration of what he has built at White Hart Lane unless it is a world record transfer fee which will prove beneficial for the club.
“Manchester United sold Cristiano Ronaldo because they got an offer of £80 million. It was a good business. I’m sure it would have to be that kind of money for Bale.” said the Coach.
