Video: Gareth Bale's first ever Spanish interview since joining Real Madrid

Gareth Bale gives his interview in Spanish for the first time

Wales superstar Gareth Bale has spoken in Spanish for the first time in an interview where he has thanked the Real Madrid fans and is due to be broadcasted next Thursday.

The 25-year-old has been with the 10-time European champions for two seasons now since he made his move from Tottenham to the Spanish side back in 2013 for a world record transfer fee of €100 m. The winger, in his first season itself, was a decisive figure for the Bernabeu outfit as he won the Copa Del Rey (that unforgettable solo goal against Barca) and La Decima for the capital club.

But after a marvellous debut season with the La Liga giants and winning over the crowd, one wouldn’t have expected Bale to have a sluggish follow-up in the next as 2014/15 campaign was a downgrade for the Welshman. Real Madrid ended trophyless and Bale was unable to reproduce his heroics in the previous season which drew a lot of criticism from the Bernabeu faithful and they weren’t shy from letting him know about their frustrations as evident from attempted attack on his car by certain fans.

With the former Tottenham man struggling down the right flank, new manager Rafa Benitez has opted to utilise him in a central no.10 role and he has been deployed there in Madrid’s preseason games and opening fixture. As much as president Florentino Perez has been pleased by that decision reportedly, the fans still booed the forward as they weren’t convinced by the new boss’ move.

Local sports paper AS conducted a poll on their website regarding who should be dropped from the starting XI and fans voted for the Wales international to sit out clearly letting their intentions known.

But the Galacticos star in his first ever upcoming Spanish interview has thanked the Real fans for their support. In two years, he has been taking Spanish lessons but has always hesitated from speaking the language in public.

That has changed however as Bale himself posted the following tweet on his official account where he stated, "a little advance of my first interview in Spanish, ahead of the complete interview tomorrow."

"The fans are good with me, and it is a dream for me to play for Real Madrid," Bale says during the preview piece.
