Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney - the transfer saga goes on

Gareth Bale

We are firmly in the transfer window, and every day the headlines are being made by the same players. For months we’ve heard how Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney are on the verge of leaving their respective clubs.

The EPL kicks off in less than two weeks, and all three are yet to make their moves. I don’t know about you, but it’s getting a bit tedious now. Seriously, what are we waiting for?

Who in their right mind would turn down £85 million for Gareth Bale? You can easily buy four Champions League-quality stars with that cash. It’s a staggering amount of money that could make a huge difference to any football club.

Let’s be honest, Real Madrid is an opportunity no player can turn down. Tottenham should thank Bale for his service, take the money and turn themselves into a title challenger without the Welsh winger. Reinvest that transfer fee into the squad wisely, and watch Spurs progress up the table. The sooner this story is put to bed, the better.

We should be used to Luis Suarez dominating the back pages. If he’s not lighting up the field with another inspirational display, he’s serving a lengthy ban for racial abuse or biting. And now he claims he’s being victimised by the British press. They wouldn’t have anything to report on if he didn’t do such ridiculous things in the first place!

His reasons for leaving aren’t totally solid. As good a player as Suarez is, he will let you down with his discipline. Liverpool should cut their losses and get a quality replacement, preferably one who isn’t banned for the first six games of the season. Or at the very least, fix the clause in his contract. £40 million + offers trigger something; just no one knows what exactly.

With Wayne Rooney, we’ve been here before. Asking to leave Manchester United is something players do not do twice. Despite a change in manager and the opportunity of a fresh start, the ‘angry and confused’ Scouser still maintains he wants to leave.

A few seasons ago, selling the England striker seemed inconceivable. However last year his form dipped and all the glory was taken by Robin van Persie. It’s quite simple really: if Rooney played better, he would be considered a more important member of the team.

Proving yourself on the pitch is the professional way to make a point, but throwing your toys out of the pram seems to be Rooney’s way. He can’t be wanting a new contract again, so United should sell up and remember they still have the best striker in England (RVP).

The chairmen, owners or chief executives of Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United would do their fans a world of favour if they sort this mess out.

The fans are bored of the same speculation day in and day out. Most fans are resigned to losing these players, and just want the deals done so the replacements can come in.

The right thing is to get definite answers on these players’ futures, so everyone can move on and concentrate on their actions on the pitch, not off it.
