Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Wales’ friendly with The Republic of Ireland with a foot injury.

The winger missed all but 45 minutes of the north London club’s pre-season as he was heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, who reportedly made a world record bid for the Welshman’s signature.

Bale was allowed to join up with the Welsh national squad despite missing Tottenham’s pre-season match against Espanyol over the weekend. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas said that he did not expect Bale to be fit for their Premier League opener next weekend.

Wales’ assistant manager Kit Symons confirmed that the winger would miss the friendly versus the Republic of Ireland.”Gareth will do a light session. He’s not done the sufficient work yet to feature (on Wednesday) but the great thing is he wanted to be part of the group and we’re pleased to have him on board.

“It shows the levels of trust that we’ve built up with all the top clubs, the way we conduct ourselves within the organisation.”

Aaron Ramsey and James Collins will join Bale on the sidelines as both withdrew from the Welsh squad with minor injuries.
