Rome, Feb 5 (IANS): Palermo’s head coach Gian Piero Gasperini was sacked following their 1-2 defeat against Atalanta.

The club confirmed in a 34-word statement Monday on their website that Gasperini would not see out the season.

Gasperini was hired after three weeks into the season when Giuseppe Sannino axed. The former Genoa boss collected three wins, seven draws and 10 defeats.

Palermo added in their short note that the new coach would be announced before Tuesday morning. That man is now expected to be Alberto Malesani, the ex-Fiorentina tactician who was sacked twice by Genoa last term.
