In a recent interview, former Manchester United and current Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique has said that he wants his former team to beat Real Madrid when the two giants meet this week in their Champions League round of 16 clash.

The simple reasons for Pique to support the Red Devils are that he played at for them from 2004 to 2008, before signing for Barcelona. Also, Real Madrid are the arch-rivals of his current team.

Gerard Pique has a Champions League match of his own which, will see his side travelling to Italy to face AC Milan. He said that he had spoken to his former Manchester United team mate, Rio Ferdinand about the game on Wednesday. He said: “I’d like United to go through because of my history. I spoke to Ferdinand and the team’s in great shape.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United striker who had scored the winning goal in the 1999 European Cup, also said that he was rooting for the team.

Solskjaer said: “I want Manchester United to win, but for the first time, I really don’t know what’s going to happen.” Regarding Ronaldo, he said: “I’d like a 4-3, with Cristiano scoring three goals. He was 17 when he went to United, he’s a great lad. I watched him become a man. If I could sign just one player, I’d sign Cristiano. Yes, Messi is fantastic, but I’d take CR7.”

The Norwegian ended by saying: “Both managers know each other well, and the teams are very evenly matched. I think it will be decided by a moment of genius from Van Persie or Cristiano.”
