Gerard Pique: No Disrespect Shown To Arsenal Over Cesc Fabregas Saga

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has come to compatriot Xavi’s aid and said that he did not disrespect Arsene Wenger or Arsenal via his comments about Cesc Fabregas. Xavi had earlier claimed that Cesc was ‘suffering’ at Arsenal and that the London club should see sense and let him come home to Barcelona.

Pique comes to Xavi's aid

Wenger seethed when he heard these comments and accused Xavi of being disrespectful to the Gunners. But Pique made attempts to pour oil on troubled waters and told Spanish media outlet Sport that Barcelona players were known for being unbiased and respectful. He said-

“Barcelona and the players have always spoken with great respect,”

“Any player suffers when there`s so much talk about his future due to the uncertainty of not knowing where he will be playing. Saying that is not a lack of respect to anybody.”

But he also threw caution to the winds and said that his teammates would do better to stop talking in public about the Fabregas move, as that would serve no purpose in the end, and would only make things more complicated and disorienting. He displayed a hint of ‘Que sera sera’ about the entire deal and said that things would sort themselves out in the end, whether positively or otherwise.

He said-

“I know how the situation is, but I think we must leave Cesc in peace and let things run their course. The summer is very long, there has been a lot of talk and it doesn`t help at all,”

It remains to be seen whether Xavi and the other Barcelona players heed Pique’s advice or continue shooting their mouths off. It may well be their undoing in the end, as Cesc Fabregas looks more and more likely to stay on at the Emirates next season. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
