Ghana begin training ahead of African Cup of Nations

Accra, Jan 2 (IANS) Ghana have begun a non-residential training ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Equatorial Guinea later this month.

Fifteen players reported for the opening day exercise at the Lizzy sports complex in Accra under the direction of assistant coach Maxwell Konadu and fitness trainer Jamie Lawrence, reports Xinhua.

A total of 26 players are expected to open a 10-day camp in Spain from Jan 3 before flying out to their base in Mongomo. The Black Stars are expected to play a few test matches before the final 23-man squad for the Championship is announced.

Ghana will play in Group C of the 2015 AFCON tournament alongside Senegal, South Africa and Algeria. Avram Grant's side will begin its campaign with an opening clash against Senegal at the competition which kicks off on Jan 17 and ends Feb 8.
