GIF-Wrap: Five reasons why we all love Juan Mata

Juan Mata of Chelsea celebrates scoring against Steaua Bucharest during their Europa League match at Stamford Bridge in London

Juan Mata made his much publicised club record move from Chelsea to Manchester United this weekend. With Manchester United fans drooling over the prospect of seeing the Spaniard in action and Chelsea fans still coming to terms with the departure of the diminutive playmaker, we take a look at five of his best moments.

1. Manchester United have experienced Mata’s talents first hand, with this sublime free kick from October 2012 just one example of his talents. United eventually went on to win 3-2, but were made to sweat when Mata started a Chelsea comeback from two goals down to 2-2.

2. Phil Jones and co – watch out. United’s defenders may have to step up the concentration in training over the next few weeks, with Mata’s quick feet capable of humiliating defenders in tight situations, as Raul Albiol found out when on international duty with Mata above.

3. Speculation persists over Mata’s role in the United line up, with many suggesting that he will be on the right hand side of a slightly narrower trio behind lone front man Robin Van Persie. If that does prove to be the case then United fans will be hoping to see the kind of goal that Mata produced against Newcastle last season (again in a 3-2 defeat)

4. The conspiracy theorists amongst us – and Arsene Wenger – suggest that Chelsea have allowed Mata to leave in order to sabotage their title rival’s chances when playing against them for United. One thing’s for sure - Arsenal fans certainly won’t be relishing the prospect of seeing Mata again when United visit the Emirates in two weeks time, having already witness him dump their side out of the Capital One Cup earlier in the season.mata goal arsenal

5. Another goal against his new club, this crisp volley came during a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford in February 2012.
