Greenpeace activists leave Carlos Ancelotti and Pepe puzzled during Real Madrid conference

Real Madrid's pre-match press conference

Greenpeace activists pulled out a poster whilst a Real Madrid conference at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen ahead of Real Madrid’s champions league fixture against FC Copenhagen. Gazprom which is one of the sponsors in the UEFA Champions league was targeted by the Greenpeace activists because of the Russian company’s oil drilling business in the Arctic.

The poster which said ” SAVE THE ARCTIC SHOW GAZPROM THE RED CARD” was then quickly removed by an official who was present at the conference. In September of this year one of the ships boarded by Greenpeace activists was held captive in Russia. Reports in Bloomberg suggest that 28 activists and 2 journalists from over 18 countries might face 15 years in jail for the alleged protests for an oil rig owned by Gazprom in the Artic.

The Greenpeace activists had previously protested in St Jakob Park in Basel where the champions league fixture between FC Basel and Schalke FC was being played. The poster even disrupted the match. As per reports in ESPN, FC Basel were later fined 30,000 euros for their in-efficient organisation. Greenpeace and FC Basel later agreed for a settlement which included the Swiss club paying the fine to UEFA and the same amount would be paid by Greenpeace to a Romanian Orphanage. It is said that FC Basel’s security has been increased after this incident took place.

It is likely that the Danish club would also be fined after it’s ineffective management led to the poster disrupting the conference.

Real Madrid CF Training Session

On the other hand Cristiano Ronaldo will be looking forth for his visit to Copenhagen. The Portugese is one step away from creating record. Already netted 8 times in 4 appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo will look forward to score more goals which would create a new goal scoring record previously jointly held by Ruud Van Nisterlooy, Filippo Inzaghi, Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has also netted in 8 times for Paris St Germain this season.
