Manchester united never looked troubled as they beat Ipswich Town 3-0 at Old Trafford to advance to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup. Goals from Wayne Rooney, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial gave the Red Devils the win.

Rooney opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when he was released by Daley Blind with a long ball. The English striker controlled the ball well, kept a defender at bay and then fired a shot with his left foot past Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski to make it 1-0.

Andreas Pereira then scored a goal to remember his first start by. Juan Mata was fouled outside the box and the 19-year-old midfielder stepped up to take a delightful free kick that saw Bialkowski just watching it sail into the back of the net.

Anthony Martial then made it 3-0 after coming on as a substitute. Memphis Depay chested down another long ball to allow Martial through on goal and he made no mistake in putting it home in the bottom right corner in the 92nd minute.

Louis van Gaal happy with Martial’s goalscoring form

Martial has now made it four goals in as many games and manager Louis van Gaal is happy for the 19-year-old French striker. But he also warned that he should not get carried away.

“It is not so difficult for Martial to stay grounded because he is a player who is very modest and he knows he can score because of his fellow players,” Van Gaal said, according to BBC.

“Twice we made it very easy for him because the gaps were existing and then with his speed and his composure he can score.

“He did it also against Liverpool and now again. We are happy but still we have to keep our feet on the ground.”
