Manchester United players celebrate Schneiderlin’s goal

A first-half header from Manchester United’s latest signing Morgan Schneiderlin was enough for the Red Devils to start their pre-season tour of the United States of America in the International Champions Cup. They will next face the San Jose Earthquakes.

Manager Louis van Gaal handed debuts to right-back Matteo Darmian, midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and forward Memphis Depay, as the team lined up in a hybrid 4-4-2/4-3-3 formation. In what was a rather unimpressive first half for the Old Trafford outfit, United could barely get any proper attacking moves going, and were lucky to score through Schneiderlin, whose looping header from a Mata cross gave his team the lead.

The second half saw wholesale changes, as Van Gaal changed the entire team, giving a run-out to youngsters Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, James Wilson, Tyler Blackett, Adnan Januzaj and Paddy McNair, along with superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger, the former Bayern Munich midfield legend.

The Red Devils were much better in the second half, as they had many opportunities to score, but couldn’t get the goal they wanted. Club America also had a chance to score, but their chance hit the post and went out.
