Real Madrid lost 4-2 to Real Sociedad in spite of leading 2-0 thanks to some shoddy defending
Real Sociedad stunned the European champions Real Madrid after coming back from two goals down to win 4-2 on Sunday night.
Madrid were missing Cristiano Ronaldo who was out injured but Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale gave them a 2-0 lead. But Sociedad came bace into the game with goals from Inigo Martinez and David Zurutuza to level the game at 2-2.
They then took the lead when Zurutuza scored again and finally won 4-2 with Carlos Vela sealing all three points.
Real Sociedad 0-1 Real Madrid: Ramos (6’)
Ramos fired Madrid ahead from a corner kick delivered by Tono Kroos. He was unmarked and scored with an uncontested header at the edge of the six-yard box which was directed into the bottom right corner and Sociedad did not have a player at the post.
Real Sociedad 0-2 Real Madrid: Bale (12’)
Bale then doubled the lead when he nutmegged Elustondo at the edge of the box and then fired a low shot past the outstretched hand of Sociedad goalkeeper Zubikarai.
Real Sociedad 1-2 Real Madrid: Martinez (35’)
Sociedad scored their first goal with a well taken set piece. A corner was whipped in and Xabi Prieto was on hand at the near post to flick it with his head over the defenders to the far post. Martinez was unmarked inside the six yard box and only needed to tap it in with Casillas having no chance to make the save.
Real Sociedad 2-2 Real Madrid: Zurutuza (41’)
Alberto De la Bella then swung in a cross that was headed home by Zurutuza who collided with Marcelo who was trying to clear. This time, Casillas was beaten on his left side.
Real Sociedad 2-3 Real Madrid: Zurutuza (41’)
Prieto was at it again when he received the ball outside the box on the right, dribbled in uncontested near the goal line and crossed the ball for Zurutuza who was badly marked by Dani Carvajal.
Real Sociedad 2-4 Real Madrid: Vela (75’)
Sociedad sealed the result through another set piece with Carlos Vela chesting down a corner kick inside the six-yard box and lashing his shot into the top corner as Madrid protested unsuccessfully for a hand ball.
