Honda not giving enough: CSKA coach

Moscow - CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda is out of form and needs to improve soon, CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky said Monday.

Honda has recently been linked to Arsenal and German side Schalke and has started all of CSKA’s league games this season, with six goals and four assists to his name in the top flight.

“Honda can decide the result of a match on his own, but unfortunately games like that with a performance from him haven’t happened,” Slutsky said, adding that Honda had been anonymous in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

“Sunday we expected a certain contribution from him, but it never came.”

CSKA were in talks to sell Honda to Lazio in January, with the player’s support, but the clubs failed to agree a fee.

He joined CSKA in 2009 from Dutch side VVV Venlo and has since scored 22 times in 91 competitive games for the Russian league leaders.

Honda debuted for Japan in 2008 and has amassed 39 caps since then, as well as 12 international goals.
