How Manchester United's performance against Huddersfield Town underlines how nonchalant their stars are at the moment

Manchester United stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith Stadium in North Yorkshire on Sunday, and the result encapsulated everything that is wrong at the club.

To be held to a draw by a side that is at the bottom of the league table, has already been relegated, and conceded a mammoth 75 goals so far this season, was embarrassing and utterly disgraceful for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's superstars.

Manchester United's recent run of pathetic results has to be blamed upon the lethargic and non-commital approach by the players. These players do not look to win nor do they have that killer instinct. In short, none of these players deserves to wear the prestigious United shirt.

Marcus Rashford, who was pegged to be a revelation at the start of the season, has slipped to mediocrity and managed to undo all the good work he had done earlier. On Sunday, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata set him up a number of times, but all the young Mancunian did was send his shots anywhere but the target. His recklessness is amazing and shocking at the same time.

Paul Pogba, who is deemed to be the leader of United's midfield, showed a shambolic work rate, and the statisticians laughed at him when they showcased that Ander Herrera, who came on in the 53rd minute, had better dribbling and distribution numbers than him.

The Frenchman's mind is clearly at the Santiago Bernabeu, where there have been weeks of rumours about his impending transfer, and Manchester United must let him go if he wants to. There is no place at the club for players who think they are bigger than the institution.

Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez, who is hands-down the worst transfer Manchester United have ever made, showed some glimpses of his famed brilliance on the ball with Juan Mata as the link-up player, but there was nothing encouraging about his performance after he went off the field clutching his shin in the 53rd minute.

The Red Devils' defence was terrible, to say the least, and Luke Shaw, who seemed to be the best of the lot, succumbed weakly to an innocuous through ball sent onwards by Jonas Lossl. Solskjaer's decision to take off Victor Lindelof and put Diogo Dalot on will be criticised, but there is only so much the manager can do from the sidelines.

Manchester United must make sure that some of the players who turned up at North Yorkshire on Sunday have played their last game for the club, and provide opportunities to players from the Under 19s and Under 23s in the final league match against Cardiff City on 12 May.
