Final preparations are underway as players and fans alike gear up for Copa America Centenario being held in The United States this year. The tournament is a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa America. This is the first time the competition is being held outside of South America.
The Copa America’s inception goes as far back as 1916 and continues till date in a four-year cycle. The Centenario Copa America will feature an increased 16 teams, from the usual 12, and will see six CONCACAF teams also participating.
The Copa America was held just last year in 2015, with Chile winning the honours.
The Centenary tournament will be played across 10 venues in The United States as the host nation competes for the first time. The 16 teams are divided into groups of four, with the best two teams from each group progressing to the quarter final stages.
Brazil and Argentina go into the tournament as usual favourites. Brazil will be missing Neymar as he is rested for the competition. Argentina, whereas, have omitted hitmen Carlos Tevez and Paulo Dybala from their star-studded squad as Messi and men compete for the Centenario glory.
