What's the story?

East Bengal skipper Arnab Mondal has responded to Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen's criticism of his side in a professional manner.

In case you didn't know...

Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen had expressed his displeasure and called out critics of his side's playing style after two draws against Minerva Punjab and Shillong Lajong at the ongoing I-League 2017. East Bengal have won their last two games rising to fourth on the table, just one place behind their city rivals, who are in the third place now.

The heart of the matter

Sanjoy Sen had scathingly remarked that the people criticizing his team should look at the goal tally of East Bengal and other teams. He also pointed out that Mohun Bagan had conceded lesser goals in last three years of the I-League.

He further went on to say that East Bengal conceded six goals, playing the same number of matches as Mohun Bagan, who have only conceded two goals so far in the season.

In a response to Sanjoy Sen's criticism of his side, skipper Arnab Mondal has stated that his focus is on his side and they do not wish to think of what has been said by their rival coach.

We are just focusing on our team. We don’t want to think about who said what about us.

What's next?

East Bengal will face Chennai City FC at Coimbatore in their first away match in I-League 2017 on 22nd December and have a chance to leapfrog their rivals in the I-League standings. Mohun Bagan are set to take on Indian Arrows on 29th December as their game against Churchill Brothers on December 26 has been postponed to a further date.

Author's take

Arnab Mondal's response to the remarks made by Sanjoy Sen were highly professional and fitting for a captain of a big side. Sanjoy Sen's comments seemed to have come out of frustration, having drawn a couple of matches with injury concerns looming for the Kolkata side. Mondal has managed to deal with the matter well and put the issue to rest at last.
