Iker Casillas disappointed for being singled out among several players in Mourinho clash

Casillas made 725 appearances overall for Real Madrid

FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has broken his silence on the Jose Mourinho row that had occurred two seasons back at Real Madrid stating that it was unfair for him to be singled out amongst several players for clashing against the former manager.

The former Blancos keeper had a fallout with the Portuguese boss who had a controversial spell at the capital club especially during his third season at the Bernabeu. Following accusations of Casillas being a dressing room mole to the media, he was dropped twice by Mourinho and saw a lot of bench time in the league with Diego Lopez becoming the first choice goalkeeper ahead of him.

But now, the 34-year-old while recalling his time under Mourinho, has stated that he was not the only one who clashed with the coach, even though coverage of the club at the time would suggest he was while also feeling unfair on how his former club acted on the situation.

"It was like being in a couple," he said to Deportes Cuatro. "In the end it disintegrates.

"You start well at the beginning and later on, you don't have that feeling that you had before; 'He cares more about the national team than Real Madrid, he doesn't train, he is unprofessional, he leaks things to the press, he is a mole'... I will make it clear - I am not going to tell the club what it should have done. I looked out for the club and kept quiet.

Fans focusing on his goal kicks instead of team play irritated Casillas

"I knew some other players didn't get on with Mourinho, but the only one singled out was Iker Casillas. I don't get it. What really irritated me was how when we were going for La Liga as we were, the supporters focused more on me when I fetched the ball to take goal kicks.

"I imagine that people will forget the whole thing over time and the image of Iker Casillas as a goalkeeper will remain," added Casillas.

Casillas joined Porto, Mourinho’s former club, this summer window after facing heavy criticism for his performances from the supporters for the last three years or so. The World cup winning shot-stopper who spent 25 years at the Santiago Bernabeu made 725 appearances for them overall.

He won 5 La Liga titles, 2 Copa Del Reys, 3 Champions League, 4 Supercopa De Espana, 1 Uefa Super Cup,1 FIFA World Cup and the 1 Intercontinental Cup in the famous White jersey.

So far, the Spain international has started all of Porto’s five games since joining them.
