Iker Casillas hopes Victor Valdes finds a solution at Manchester United

Iker Casillas and Victor Valdes were a part of Spain’s historic squad that won back to back Euros and a World Cup trophy

FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas is concerned about Victor Valdes’ situation at Manchester United and is hopeful that he finds a way out of it because of the type of player that he is.

The former Real Madrid man took a swipe at the Premier League outfit for gradually freezing out his compatriot of their squad, reports ESPN. Valdes joined United in October 2014 after enjoying a glorious career with Barcelona which lasted more than a decade. Initially, he moved to the Old Trafford to train with the club and recover from his serious knee injury.

After that, he was signed for an 18-month deal by manager Louis van Gaal as a second-choice goalkeeper for the Red Devils. But the Spaniard slowly fell out of favour with the Dutch boss claiming that he had refused to play in a reserve game, and hasn’t started a single game for them this season.

Talking to El Mundo Deportivo, the former Real Madrid keeper said, "I want to send all my support and a lot of encouragement to Victor. This is proof that at times football is ungrateful.

"He deserves to find a solution soon because of the type of player he is.”

Speculations of Valdes moving to Turkey at the end of this transfer window emerged but the 33-year-old is still at the Old Trafford despite having being excluded from their Champions League squad and Casillas is hoping that things improve for his national team mate.

"Had they told us a year-and-a-half ago that he would be in this situation, no one would have believed it,” continued Casillas.

"Obviously, no one wishes him that. I know he will come out of this situation because he has a privileged mind and I really hope he comes out of this.

"I'm certain he will succeed because we all get back to enjoying ourselves [after leaving a club]," he concluded.

Casillas himself left Real Madrid at the start of the summer as he opted to join Portuguese giants FC Porto, ending his 25-year-long spell with the capital club. The Blancos legend won two Champions League, and made 725 appearances for them overall. He won 5 La Liga titles, 2 Copa Del Reys, 3 Champions League, 4 Supercopa De Espana, 1 Uefa Super Cup,1 FIFA World Cup and the 1 Intercontinental Cup in the famous White jersey.
