Illarramendi rejects Athletic Bilbao offer, confirms Carlo Ancelotti

Illarramendi rejected a €12 million bid from Bilbao

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that midfielder Asier Illarramendi has rejected the offer from fellow La Liga stalwarts Athletic Bilbao. He is adamant on proving his worth at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid were said to have found Illarramendi surplus to requirements, after the acquisition of Lucas Silva. However, the former Spanish U-21 International is willing to affirm his authority for a starting position as Ancelotti will give him a chance against Real Sociedad today.

Ancelotti said in a press conference, "Illarra had an offer from Athletic Bilbao. But the player has made it clear that he is feeling happy and satisfied at Madrid. He has evaluated his situation and has decided to stay put.”

"Both the club and I are very happy with Illarra. He might not have played much, but he has always behaved very professional and proven to be a reliable option. He will feature from the start against Sociedad at the weekend."

Illarramendi had signed from Real Sociedad for a fee of €32.2 million in July 2013.
