New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) India will bid to host the 2015 and 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, AIFF president Praful Patel said here Monday.

“We will bid to host the Club World Cup in 2015 and 2016. An official communication has been made. I will be visiting the FIFA headquarters in January 2014 to further push our case and I believe we have a good chance,” Patel said in his first media interaction after India won the hosting rights of the U-17 FIFA World Cup.

If India win the bids then the I-League champions will get a direct entry into the top flight competition.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) president said the I-League clubs should work on their Club Licensing Criteria and treat it very seriously if they are to play at the international level.

“If we are able to host the Club World Cup along with hosting the U-17 World Cup, there will be a certain paradigm shift in the way the game is played and looked upon in the country,” he added.
