What’s the story?

Top Indian winger Bikash Jairu, after a hot and cold season, penned a new deal with Jamshedpur FC, that will see him stay at the club for another couple of seasons.

In case you didn’t know…

Jairu is an experienced campaigner and has been around on the Indian football circuit sometime now. He has even played for top clubs like Salgaocar, East Bengal, and Atletico de Kolkata (now known as ATK), winning the ISL title with the latter in the 2016 season.

The heart of the matter

Jamshedpur announced, on Friday, that they have retained their winger, who has also played for the Indian national team under Stephen Constantine. The 27-year-old, who was born in Gyalshing, West Sikkim is now set to stay at the club till the end of the 2019-20 season.

Jairu was picked by Jamshedpur FC in the 6th round of the 2017–18 ISL Players Drafts for the recently concluded ISL season. It was a topsy-turvy season for both Jairu and Jamshedpur FC, as the player finished the campaign with just one goal for the Red Mariners, who failed to make the top four in their debut season.

The Men of Steel announced this new deal on their social media account:

What’s next?

The ex-East Bengal player will look to train hard now, as his future is crystal-clear. Being an old-fashioned winger, he fits perfectly into Steve Coppell's system and will be looking to cement his spot in the starting XI next season.

Author’s take

The two-year contract will ensure he remains focused and bonds with the players of the Jamshedpur side. Being at a stable club that has all the facilities of the Tata Football Academy, may just do him a lot of good in terms of planning for a longer future in the Steel City.
