What's the story?

East Bengal defender Eduardo Ferreira won the hearts of many fans despite his team's loss in the final. Eduardo handed his medal to one of East Bengal's long-time supporters. Jamuna Mashi, better known as 'Lozenge Mashi', has been a long-time supporter of the Red and Gold brigade and even made the trip to Bhubaneswar to watch her favourite team in action.

In case you didn't know...

East Bengal were beaten by Bengaluru FC in the final of Hero Indian Super Cup 2018 by a scoreline of 4-1. Bengal drew the first blood through Ansumanah Kromah on the 28th minute. Bengaluru, however, responded by scoring four goals and eventually lift the cup, after Samad Ali Mallick was sent off.

The heart of the matter

East Bengal may indeed have lost the match to Bengaluru, but one of their players has surely won the fans' hearts. Eduardo Ferreira, who plays in defence for the Red and Golds handed over his medal to Jamuna Mashi, who is.

Jamuna Mashi, also known as Lozenge Mashi has been a long-time fan of East Bengal and attends every home match for the side. She also followed her team to Bhubaneshwar for the Super Cup.

Lozenge Mashi came to be known as the same as she can be seen selling lozenges in the stadium for Bengal's home matches. The long-time fan was rewarded for her support as Eduardo handed her the runners-up medal, which he received for the Super Cup.

What's next?

East Bengal will be looking to do better than they did in 2017/18 season. They finished fourth in the league and lost in the finals of the Super Cup. The Red and Golds will be looking to bring in some reinforcements and improve their position before next season gets underway.

Author's take

It is always nice to see the human side of the athletes. Eduardo Ferreira has done the same here. It is also good to see avid fans being rewarded in the way Lozenge Mashi has. Although her team lost the Super Cup, she will no doubt take this memorabilia with her and embrace it as a reward for her support.
