From the likes of Johan Cryuff to Pep Gaurdiola, FC Barcelona have had their fair amount of managers who revolutionized the philosophy that shaped footballing history. And with the likes of Romario, Koeman, Rivaldo, Puyol, Roandhino, Valdes, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Pique and arguably the greatest player of all time Lionel Messi, the club have also had a good number of players to help those mangers in every way possible.

Barcelona have the most number of trophies won by a single European club in the top 5 leagues (93). They are also the only club in Europe to win the treble (UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa Del Rey) twice in the last decade, and a sextuple (UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa Del Ray, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup , Club World Cup) in 2009.

The time between 2009-2012 was the greatest time period in the history of the club, led by Pep Guardiola - they won 14 trophies in that time span. The core of that team mainly consisted of Victor Valdes in goal, Dani Alves, Carlos Puyol, Gerrard Pique, Eric Abidal in defence, Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta in midfield and Pedro Rodriguez, Lionel Messi and David Villa up front.

Other honorable names were Javier Mascherano, Rafa Marquez, Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry, Yaya Toure and so on.

Fast forward to 2015, where the majority of the core players that won it all were still in the team to help the club win another treble. This time in goal was Marc Andre Ter Stegan / Claudio Bravo, there were Dani Alves, Gerrard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba in defence, Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta in midfield and Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, possibly the deadliest front three in football history, in attack.

Now fast forward to 2019, where FC Barcelona have seen their bitter rivals Real Madrid win 3 UEFA Champions League titles in a row. Barcelona are desperate to win a Champions League title, with only three players that started it all in 2009 left in the main squad - Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi.

In the next 2-3 years, even these three would be on the verge of hanging their boots. With the likes of Marc Andre Ter Stegan (26), Nelson Semedo (25), Samuel Umtiti (25), Clement Lenglet (23), Arthur Melo (22), Ousmane Dembele (21), Carles Alena (21), Malcolm (22) and recent huge money signing Frenkie De Jong (21), the club is heading in the right direction for the future.

FC Barcelona are also rumored to be interested in signing a new young striker in Luka Jovic (21) from Eintracht Frankfurt, a left back in Ferland Mendy (23) from Lyon and a central defender in Matthijs de Ligt (19) from Ajax in the next summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see how the next generation of superstars in the club will perform, as all the pressure to deliver is shifted on to their shoulders.

Will they take the football world by storm, or will they fail to impress the demanding Barca fans? Only time will tell.
