Is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the solution to Arsenal F.C.'s problems?

<p>

Borussia Dortmund's star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal lately. Having lost their talisman, Alexis Sanchez, to their rivals Manchester United, the Gunners are understandably looking to strengthen their front line by bringing in Aubameyang, who is reportedly unhappy at Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Sanchez go the other way, but Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bringing the Gabon International to the North London club as further reinforcement.

Aubameyang has scored 13 goals and has provided 3 assists for his teammates in the Bundesliga this term. Notably, he was awarded the "Torjägerkanone" for the season 2016/17 when he finished on 31 goals, one ahead of Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski - which goes to show just how prolific the 28-year-old is.

Arsenal had a bid of £50 million rejected last week, with Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc stating that they would let Aubameyang leave only if their demands were met.

Recent reports, however, claim that Arsenal have reached a £60 million agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. His arrival could in turn force a move out for Olivier Giroud, who has rarely featured for the Gunners since the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for a fee of £52 million in the summer of 2017.

Arsenal have struggled to find form, and speaking of Lacazette, the Frenchman has failed to reignite the same deadly scoring prowess which he built up during his days at Olympique Lyonnais.

Having featured for the Gunners in 24 matches, Lacazette has managed to score only 9 goals and has assisted 3, whereas Giroud has scored 4 goals in 15 appearances.

Alexis Sanchez was involved in 10 goals for Arsenal before joining the Red Devils, and it is clear as day that Arsenal are in dire need of someone who can put balls into the back of the net on a consistent basis. With Mesut Ozil's contract expiring this summer, Arsene Wenger definitely has a lot to plan and think about during the transfer window.

The arrival of Aubameyang would allow Arsene Wenger to experiment with the 3-5-2 formation playing Aubameyang and Lacazette both as strikers instead of the traditional 4-3-3 formation which he rarely deterred from during Alexis Sanchez's tenure.

Arsenal are 6th on the Premier League table on 42 points, 23 points behind league leaders Manchester City, and 5 points adrift of a UEFA Champions League berth. The Gunners have been dumped out off the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest following a lacklustre performance at The City Ground.

However, the fans still have something to cheer about as they muscled past Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, where Manchester City await them in the finals. The signing of Aubameyang could be completed this week as sources have claimed that the Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with the player.

Although Arsene Wenger has suggested that a UEFA Champions League spot could already be out of reach, Arsenal would look to gain a strong foothold in the Carabao Cup finals as it is the only piece of silverware Arsene Wenger could get his hands on this season,

The Premier League has proven to be a nightmare for many star players with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, and Memphis Depay failing to leave a mark.

Arsenal will be hoping that their latest transfer target adjusts to the competitive league and hands them a piece of silverware to rejoice and potentially save Wenger from being sacked next season.
