Although he is being used sparingly, Isco remains a true “Madridista” at heart

Madrid fans at Santiago Bernabeu had a special chant prepared for Real Madrid’s clash against Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon. Although the match ended in a 4-2 victory for the home side, the fans were not completely happy due to the possibility of a potentially humiliating Copa del Rey fixture on their home ground.

During the last month, Barcelona fans have been busy voicing their interest in the final game of the Cup tournament. The Catalan club’s fans want to see the final between Barcelona and Sevilla to be played at the Bernabeu as an obvious show of humiliation. Real Madrid fans have been voicing their protest ever since. They found a proper stage to voice their protest during the match against Athletic and a huge number of Madrid fans kept on chanting against the possible Cup fixture.

Spanish midfielder Isco, who came on the pitch during the second half, voiced his opinion during the post match interview and said,”As a Madridista, I wouldn't like it either".

When asked if he were comfortable with being among the substitutes he said that squad rotation was inevitable and the coach must rotate his players to keep everyone fresh throughout the season. “It's crucial that we're all at 100% so that we can all do our bit for the team", he added.

Athletic Bilbao fought well: Isco

Isco was quick to show respect for the opposition and said, "it was a really close-fought first half; we scored early, but they were quick to get themselves level too. We kept at it though, and at the end of the first half we managed to get ourselves back on the scoresheet. They approached the game really well and they had their chances, but in general, I think we put in a really good display and it will stand us in good stead for Roma."

Real Madrid will face Roma in the Champions League round of last 16, on Wednesday night.
