ISL is one of the top-tier league in India after I-league. Like several other leagues in the world, ISL does not use Promotion/Relegation instead, it follows the expansion method like Major League Soccer in the USA.

Chennaiyin FC and ATK are the most successful teams in Indian Super League with winning two trophies each in four seasons.

Chennaiyin FC is the defending champions of the Indian Super League after beating Bengaluru FC in the finals in Season 4 of Indian Super League.

As Season 5 of Indian Super League is picking its pace. We take a short look at the Players with most appearances in the Indian Super League history.


#1 Iain Hume

34-year old Canadian striker Iain Hume is at first position for most appearances in ISL History.

In 1999 he had started his career at Tranmere Rovers and stayed there for 6 years. After 6 years he plied his trade for Leicester City. He has played for Leicester for 3 years and then moved to Barnsley for a huge amount of £1.2 million where he suffered a head injury.

He came to India in 2014 season where he played for Kerala Blasters in Indian Super League. After playing for Kerala Blasters for season 1, he moved to Atletico De Kolkata. He stayed there for 2 years also winning a trophy with ATK. Iain Hume then returned to Kerala Blasters in the 2018-19 season but due to injury, he did not get much game time.

He now plays for FC Pune City this season. Iain Hume has not played a single match in ISL season 5 due to injury.

He has played 59 matches till now for his respective clubs and netted 28 times, which shows his dominance in the League.

#2 Sandesh Jhingan

Sandesh Jhingan is at the second position for most appearances in ISL history. He is a Chandigarh born player. He has been playing for Kerala Blasters ever since the Inaugural season in ISL. He has played over 58 matches till date for the Yellow Army.

Before playing in Indian Super League he has played over 61 matches for I-league teams (United Sikkim, Mumbai, Sporting Goa, DSK Shivajians, Bengaluru FC)

From then he has never looked back, and he has become a regular starting and consistent player for Kerala Blasters as well as Indian National Team. He is also the captain of the Indian National team and his club. He was selected in 2014 for Kerala Blasters from Indian Domestic Drafts eventually winning the Emerging Player of the Season 1 and also won AIFF Emerging Player of 2014.

David James says that Sandesh has leadership qualities in him,

“It is interesting that Stephen Constantine picked Sandesh to be the captain for the game. Because he in a way supported everything, every value that he believe in Sandesh. He captains 24x7”

#3 Mandar Rao Dessai

Mandar Rao Dessai is at the third position for most appearances in ISL history. He is a 26-year-old Goa-born Football player. Mandar Rao plays for FC Goa in Season 5 of ISL.

He has made his debut for Dempo SC on 22 September 2013 in I-league. He has managed to play 57 matches in Indian Super League history. He is a young talent who has been recognized by Former FC Goa Manager Zico.

Once Zico Said that Mandar is a versatile winger with different skills in him, he just has to add more physicality to improve his game.

Narayan Das is at the fourth position for most appearances in ISL history. He has played over 5000 minutes in ISL which shows his fitness. This season he plays for Delhi Dynamos under the coach Joseph Gombau.

Narayan Das is a left-back born on 25/09/1993. He joined Tata Football Academy on 2008. After 3 years of joining in Tata Academy, he made his debut in I-league For Dempo SC.

He has made his debut with Dempo SC on 26 October 2013.

He has managed to play 55 matches till now for his respective clubs in Indian Super League.

Jeje Lalpekhlua is at the fifth position for most appearances in ISL history. He was born in Mizoram and is commonly known as Mizo Sniper. He plays for Chennaiyin FC from the Inaugural Season.

He made his professional career debut with the development side of AIFF known as Pailan Arrows in the 2010-11 season. He has managed to get 54 appearances for his club. He has been playing consistently for the Indian National Team.
