Former Portuguese star Luis Figo has stated that he played with better players than Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi during his time. Messi and Ronaldo are considered the best two players in the modern game, while many also compare the two with the greats of the past and believe the Argentine and Portuguese to be better than the ones who played before.

Figo, having lavished praise on the duo, claimed that the duo wouldn’t be considered the best players in his time. He said that if he was manager, he would buy both, Messi and Cristiano, but wouldn’t consider them to be the best ever.

He said, “Messi and Cristiano are players who make the difference more so than anyone else. I've had the pleasure of playing alongside great players, both as teammates and opponents, possibly better than Cristiano and Messi.”

The legendary Portuguese started his career at Sporting Lisbon, moved to Barcelona and made the controversial switch to rivals Real Madrid before ending his career at Italian giants Inter Milan.

Figo also predicted the winners of the Champions League, whereas he predicted either of his former clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, to reclaim the La Liga crown from Atletico Madrid.

“The Champions League? This will be the year of either Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Chelsea,” Figo predicted.

He continued, “La Liga? There is certainly a clear domination by the two traditionally strong teams, Barca and Real Madrid.”
