Barsnley have signed English international goalkeeper Jack Butland on loan from Stoke City as a cover for injured Luke Steele. The 20-year-old was signed by the Potters at the beginning of the season but was loaned to his former club Birmingham City. He made his debut for the national team against Italy last year and was also in England’s squad for Euro 2012.

The highly rated youngster will wear the number 12 jersey and is expected to make his debut against Leicester City today. He has been signed on an emergency 93-day loan. Steele, a former Manchester United player who has been with the team since 2008 and also the club captain injured himself during a practise session.

After Butland was signed by Stoke, he failed to get into the starting eleven and was behind Asmir Begovic and Sorensen in the pecking order. Butland was also linked to Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month. Butland will be hoping to impress with the Tykes as bids to regain his place in Roy Hodgson’s England side ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
