Jack Wilshere linked with a move to Barcelona

Jack Wilshere

We saw this coming, din’t we? January transfer rumours have already started to come in thick and fast and the latest is an audacious one about Barcelona’s plan to swoop Arsenal star Jack Wilshere during the winter transfer window. Dailystar reports that Barcelona are eyeing Jack Wilshere as a potential replacement for Xai and Iniesta.

This would come as a shock for the Arsenal fans as they have already witnessed two of their promising stars leave to the Catalan club when playing at the peak of their career. Although Wilshere extended his contract last year, history suggests that Barcelona cannot be taken lightly when it comes to transfer rumours. The Spanish Champions are looking for long-term replacements for the likes of Xavi, now 33, and 29-year-old Andres Iniesta and along with Wilshere, Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan and Atletico Madrid’s Koke are reported targets.

Just as the Gunners are settling the dust in the Premier League and stand at the top of the table after playing 8 league games, this rumour would certainly disheartened the fans. As an Arsenal fan, I hope Jack Wilshere comes out and clears the air by denying the possibly of any such moves in the future.

In other news, Arsenal have been told to forget about Julian Draxler by Schalke’s technical director Horst Heldt. Quoted by Talksport, when asked about Draxler’s long term future at the German club and whether Schalke are trying to find a replacement for Draxler, Heldt said:

“No, why? He has a long-term contract and there is no reason that he will be sold this summer or next. We are in regular contact, he feels right and has now decided to stay at Schalke. We do not plan to sell.”

However, during the interview with Bild, Heldt added: “We are planning with Julian, but if an offer over €70m came in what I say then? We plan to keep him, everything else in this crazy football world I can not control.”
