Nottingham Forest centre back Jamaal Lascelles to Arsenal?

Arsenal could bid for highly rated Nottingham Forest centre back Jamaal Lascelles imminently, after The Gunners’ Chief Scout Steve Rowley watched the youngster during Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bolton at the weekend, according to The Mirror.

The 20 year-old came through the ranks at Forest’s famed academy and has also won caps at every youth level for England. The youngster has been on Wenger’s radar for a number of years with Forest reportedly rejecting a £5 million bid as early as 2011.

Following a loan spell with Stevenage, Lascelles has forced his way into the side this season, following injuries to established players, and formed a formidable partnership with Jack Hobbs. Comparisons have been drawn with fellow Forest graduate Michael Dawson, although Lascelles is blessed with significantly more pace. Add strength, height and ability on the ball to his traits and the youngster has gained many plaudits for his performances, with the rumoured interest seemingly about to culminate in a flurry of bids.

Liverpool have also sent scouts to watch the Derby born defender as Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a long term investment. While Wenger, who is in the market for a centre-back to act as cover for his current contingent, will not wish to lose out on a player he has tracked for so long.

With Forest fighting for promotion, Billy Davies will be desperate to reject any bids for his starlet. But a significant offer, coupled with the player’s expected willingness to move on, would provide a challenge for the club’s hierarchy. Bids from two high profile clubs could spark a bidding war, but losing such a key player midway through the season could be a blow Forest would not recover from.
