Javier Mascherano: Fancying a return to the EPL?

Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has refused to be drawn on his future at the club after narrowly missing out on the La Liga title, but also confirmed his belief that the Catalan’s dominance is over.

Atletico Madrid drew at the Nou Camp to win their first Liga title since 1996 and confirm that Barcelona finished the season without a trophy.

The Catalan giants lost the Copa del Rey final to Real Madrid and finished second in La Liga. Atletico not only beat Barca to the league title but they knocked them out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, too.

It has been a miserable season all round for Barcelona and Mascherano has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks, but refused to comment, instead focusing on the job at hand for Barca going forward.

“The least important thing today is the future of Mascherano, Barcelona is what matters. An unrepeatable cycle has finished,” he told Barca TV.

“The club will make decisions and changes but we have to accept that this season has not been the best.”

Coach Tata Martino has confirmed he will be leaving the club this summer, with former player Luis Enrique expected to replace him.
