Aston Villa sign Joe Cole on free transfer

Joe Cole: From the Hammers to the Villans injury free

Joe Cole, the veteran England midfielder is set to sign for Aston Villa after being released by West Ham after the end of last season. Sam Allardyce released him after his first team opportunities were hindered due to a number of injuries.

The 32-year old midfielder who won 56 caps for England will be offered a two-year contract to ply his trade at Villa Park. Cole hopes to get his career back on track with Aston Villa with a forgettable experience with West ham marred by injuries.

Joe Cole, a three-time title winner with Chelsea has also played for Liverpool and Lille(on-loan) has a CV to boast off.

Aston Villa boss, Paul Lambert is a fond admirer of the veteran feels Cole will be a great value addition to his youthfull squad considering Cole’s experience and versatility. Lambert himself who played late into his 30s as a midfielder hopes to revive Cole’s sinking career and pull Aston Villa from the relegation battle next season.

Paul Lambert is having to work under a tight budget with owner Randy Lerner reluctant to fund big money deals and trying to see a way out by the sale of the club.

Joe Cole is the second addition to the Aston Villa squad with former Arsenal defender Phillippe Senderos joining in with a two-year contract on free transfer. Former Villa boss Alex Mcleish tried to loan the player from Liverpool in 2011 only to see him move to Lille on-loan.
