There are reports coming out on social media that Bollywood star John Abraham will be producing a movie called ’1911′ which will be based on Mohun Bagan’s historic IFA Shield triumph in 1911.

In what was labeled as the “greatest day in the history of Indian club football”, a group of Indians took to the field to face off against well equipped teams and defied all odds to win the IFA Shield. It was a victory that sparked a dying freedom struggle in India and inspired the youth to overthrow their colonial rulers.

The team was formed by Shibdas Bhaduri, a legend in Indian football. And his group of bare-footed players made their way to the final to face East Yorkshire Regiment in a stadium packed with 80,000 fans with plenty unable to get in. Mohun Bagan won 2-1 thanks to a late winner.

In 2011, Mohun Bagan celebrated the centenary year of the IFA Shield triumph.

John Abraham, a self confessed football fan, has already been involved in a movie about football Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal in 2007. Although it got a few positive reviews, the film did not do too well at the box office. It remains to be seen if he will be successful in this venture about the true story of historic achievement in Indian football.
