It was a much anticipated evening for Manchester United fans at Old Trafford. Fan favorite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made his return to the Theater Of Dreams as manager of the opposing team to a huge reception from his former clubs fans. But the moment everybody was waiting to see was the debut of new signing Juan Mata. The Spaniard started the game for his new club and even managed to help them achieve a 2-0 victory over their Welsh opposition. The midfielder did not play his best game which is understandable as he has a lot of adjusting to do but he showed United fans that he is going to be a major player in the future. This Juan is going to be better than the Red Devils’ previous Juan who also played for both Manchester United and Chelsea. If Mata’s debut is anything to go by it looks like David Moyes made the right decision when he close to splash out £37.1 million on the former Blues man.

The midfielder spend 85 minutes on the pitch and provided some moments of pure magic before being called off for Adnan Januzaj. The 25-year-old linked up excellently with his new buddies and managed to complete 44 of his 51 passes, something that has not been done by a Manchester United playmaker in a long time. Mata’s crossing was also on the mark and one of the crosses even helped Patrice Evra get into position to feed Van Persie the ball which led to the opening goal in the sixth minute. The Spaniards best moment came when he assisted Ashley Young‘s screamer which sealed the game for the Red Devils. Mata was easily one of the best players on the pitch and fully deserved the Man of the Match award which was bestowed on him by his new club. Mata and Manchester United are destined for great things.

As expected the Old Trafford faithful have already taken to their new number 8. Mata’s name was met by wild applause when it was confirmed that he would be in the starting line up by the announcer. The supporters also cheered when Mata first kicked the ball for his new team. The Spain international is sure to feel right at home at United as he was used to the same reception at Stamford Bridge. Mata’s arrival has brought some much needed hope among the fans and players which was absent for quite a few months. The passmaster will get better with time and looks certain to become a crowd favorite. It won’t be long before United fans think of a chant as a tribute to their midfielder.

David Moyes looks set to have some selection headaches as Rooney is set to return for the match against Stoke City and it will be interesting to see how Moyes plays two strikers along with Mata instead of just one. An attacking quartet of Mata, Rooney and RVP is something to drool about as they can make Manchester United a feared club once again. The hope of Champions League football next season is bigger then ever with such a frightful looking attacking force. There are some big games coming up in the next two months but the Old Trafford outfit can now hold their own against the opposition.

In spite of his brilliance Mata cannot be a one man force for United. Moyes needs to make at least one more addition to the midfield in order to get things running smoothly in the engine room. However Mata can be a game changer with his vision and passing. If Manchester United are in trouble they can call Nine-Juan-Juan.
