Juan Mata is optimistic that Manchester United’s league form will improve again upon their return from a warm weather training break in Dubai this weekend.

United have won just two games since the turn of the year and sit in seventh place in the table, 15 points off top spot and 11 away from even finishing in the top four, with many criticising the way United have gone about the season.

Mata, who has been on the winning side just once since arriving from Chelsea in a club record £37.1million deal, feels that the trip to the Middle East could prove beneficial to the Red Devils and hopes they return reinvigorated to try and claw back the deficit between themselves and the top clubs.

The Spaniard said, “We’re going to rest a bit, train as a group and prepare ourselves for the rest of the season.

“Once we come back from this mini break, hopefully we will win many more matches.”

Mata also claimed that he is not bothered by manager David Moyes’ positioning of him since joining the side, despite the Spanish playmaker having often been played in the wide positions rather than his best position; the number ten role behind the striker.

“Throughout my career I have been played on the right, on the left and just behind the striker.

“I don’t mind playing anywhere my manager asks me to play.

“I am happy, very happy at the club. I am enjoying my football, getting minutes on the pitch. I am in a very, very big club and I hope we finish the season well.”

Manchester United will return from their warm weather training for the Champions League last 16 clash with Olympiakos, before they get a chance to address their league woes with a trip to Crystal Palace the following Sunday.

Juan Mata has already created 13 chances for Manchester United in his four games for them, the same amount as Ashley Young in his 15 outings for the club.
