France striker Karim Benzema has extended his contract with Real Madrid by five years. He will stay at the club until June 30, 2019 with the new deal.

The news was confirmed by the club on their official website.

His future at the La Liga club was in serious doubt this summer with the arrival of big names like James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos. And he was also linked with Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool.

But all that speculation has been put to rest after he signed the new contract. The 26-year-old had arrived from Lyon in 2009 in a €40 million deal and has since then scored 111 goals in 233 games for the European champions.
