Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has warned Manchester United of the effects of failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League, suggesting in his Mirror column that last season’s struggling champions will find it far more difficult to sign players should they finish outside the Premier League’s top four.
“It is starting to look more and more as if Manchester United are not going to finish in the top four this season,” opened Dalglish.

“If that happens, it will be a big blow for them financially and will make it a lot harder to sign the players they want in the summer.”
Dalglish knows first-hand of the problems encountered signing players while not in European football, having managed Liverpool between 2011 and 2012 when the side were languishing in mid table; infamously spending £35 million on Andy Carroll.
Earlier in the week United legend Gary Neville admitted, albeit perhaps facetiously, that he still harbours a glimmer of hope that United can qualify for next season’s Champions League by winning the competition this year, suggesting that such an eventuality –which would stop the team fourth in the Premier League from qualifying –would come at the expense of Liverpool.
However, Dalglish insists that even United do win the competition, Liverpool have no intention of settling for fourth place.
“[United] could still qualify for the Champions League by winning it this season – I think there’s more chance of them doing that than getting into the top four.”
“I see some United fans have been saying they’re going to win the Champions League, which would mean the fourth place team in the Premier League will lose its place in next season’s competition.”
“They seem to think that means Liverpool will suffer.
Just one question: Why are they assuming Liverpool are only going to finish fourth?”
