Kevin Campbell wants Arsenal to sign Romelu Lukaku

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes that the North Londoners should sign Everton forward Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

The burly Belgian tormented the Gunners defence at Goodison Park yesterday as Roberto Martinez’s side produced an excellent performance to claim a 3-0 victory and move to within a point of their rivals.

The Toffees are now just one point off of a Champions League spot with just six games to play and Lukaku’s goal this season have been key to their recent vein of form that has included six victories in a row.

However, the 20-year-old is unlikely to have a future at his parent club Chelsea despite his impressive form and has been strongly linked with a summer move away from Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest while Everton are also desperate to make his move permanent but, according to the Metro, Campbell is adamant that Emirates chief Arsene Wenger should sign the striker for his former club.

“He’s young, he’s strong, he’s quick and he’s direct. What more do you need?” he declared.

Lukaku has previously stated that he wants to play Champions League football next season, but with Arsenal now looking unlikely to hang onto fourth spot he may not be interested in a switch to north London.

Olivier Giroud was an anonymous figure up front for Arsenal on Sunday and clearly lacks the fight and desire the young Belgian would bring to Arsenal’s side.

Meanwhile, after yet another insipid display Wenger must now face up to the prospect that he could not qualify for Europe’s elite club competition for the first time during his tenure.

No Arsenal player has scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Romelu Lukaku (13).
